Sony ends support for all handsets released in 2012 except Xperia T & Xperia V

Sony has begun updating its support pages for the Xperia smartphones released in the year 2012. All of those pages list Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the smartphones “latest and final version”.

There are only two droids from this lineup, which fate is still uncertain – the Xperia T and Xperia V. Sony says their KitKat update is “under investigation”. So there is still hope for those two, but given the fate of their siblings chances aren’t too great.

The phones which are no longer supported on the software side are anywhere between 18 months and two years old, so most people wouldn’t necessarily expect support beyond this time frame. We understand that the full list of phones where software support is now EoL includes the following models:

  • Xperia arc S,
  • Xperia S, Xperia SL,
  • Xperia ion,
  • Xperia acro S,
  • Xperia go,
  • Xperia P,
  • Xperia J,
  • Xperia miro,
  • Xperia sola,
  • Xperia tipo
  • Xperia U.

We appreciate that Sony Mobile is now providing some transparency over when software support for a phone has ceased. At least it avoids people hoping and wishing for an update. You will notice that Sony has begun to update some of the support pages for the above mentioned phones under the Android version overview, which says “Latest & final version” for the phones where software support has ended.

Google releases five mini-games for Glass eyewear

  • Matcher – is a card-matching game while Shape Splitter lets you use your hands to slice shapes in mid-air.

They have been created in such a way that the device’s accelerometer, gyroscope and voice activation features can be used, said Google Glass developer’s blog post.

“Each game is visually simple and straightforward to play,” said Google.

The new mini-games for the Glass are not the first games that have been built especially for the device.

Some earlier games include BrickSimple’s multiplayer Battleship-like game dubbed ‘GlassBattle‘ and AMA’s puzzle game called ‘Escape‘.

Samsung slashes Galaxy Gear smartwatch price.

  • Samsung has slashed prices in India of its first wearable device, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, to Rs. 14,990. While there are conflicting reports. The price drop will be effective within this week.
  • Samsung had launched the Galaxy Gear in the country on September 25, at Rs. 22,990, alongside the Galaxy Note 3. Earlier in January, the price of the Smartwatch was dropped to Rs 19,075.

The reason behind this has been disappointing sales of the Galaxy Gear and this is the reason why the company has slashed the price of the galaxy gear.

Samsung in November said that it had sold more than 800,000 units of the smartwatch since its debut in September.
Samsung has since poured marketing resources into the Gear with heavy advertisements and collaborations with fashion shows to seize leadership in the wearable computer market after the device got off to a rocky start after being critically panned by reviewers.

Earlier in January,a Bloomberg News interview had quoted Samsung’s mobile executive VP, Lee Young-hee, who had given a March-April timeline for the launch of the next iteration of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and described what new it would bring: “When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved.”
